1/26 2022 ~Shared Monarch~

    James VI of Scotland became the king of both Scotland and England. As England became bigger and stronger, he gradually shifted towards business that benefited the UK. Even though the two regions were not a union, Scotland was dragged into England's wars with other countries. This left the Scottish people unhappy and disconsolate. Until in the 1680s, James married a catholic wife, which lead to the fight between William, who was not catholic. It was quite difficult to catch up regarding the disputes between members of the royal family, but the main point of Mr. Patersons' talk was that the Scottish and British have been hostile for decades. 

    England and Scotland continued as two separate states sharing a monarch. I was shocked to find out how the 1979 election completely broke the purdah by changing the rules last minute. Even though there was 38% of voters wished for the independence of Scotland, it had to be more than 40% in order for it to go through. The fact that the government broke the law of purdah, and still deceit Scottish people to vote against their interest, makes me rethink all the other political decisions other than the contentions we have learned.

henry the 8th is famous for having many wives. chritians, not allowed to have a divorce, which is the reason why he kept on killing his wives. So he broke away from the roman religious styles, and created a british rule, england is not a catholic country. 


James was the king of Scotland and England. he goes to live in England (bigger more powerful), he starts doing business that benefits England. Scotland was dragged into war for England and other countries. scottish people were not happy about it, 

1680s James's wife was catholic, and he turned into one. British people were unhappy with the fact that he became a catholic. 

james sister ws married to william, and he wasnt catholic, and fights with james. james flies away to england. New king, william. 


as james went to ireland, william attacks ireland in order to stop James catholic community.

10/7 2021 meatrix

     In small groups, we watched short clips of the “meatrix”. They unfold the truth behind factory farming and industrial agricultural practices. The meatrix included scenes of the movie matrix, and by adding humor they were able to attract a wider audience. As of right now, the clips are available in 11 languages, which does not include Japanese. As Mr.Paterson mentioned, cognition regarding current issues is low in Japan. Not only does the video explain the issues surrounding factory farming, but it also gives out information on what viewers can do. Moreover, each version of the meatrix followed the storyline of the actual movies, which I found enjoyable.        I found it interesting how Mr. Paterson referred to this class as taking the "red pill". Over the past few years, my English skills have progressed, and was also able to gain more knowledge. 5/26 2021 Steven Donziger

     Steven Donziger, a lawyer who stood up to Chevron cooperation is currently under house arrest. For the last two decades, they have been battling over an oil spill that had happened in Ecuador. It blew my mind that Chevron was purposefully ignoring the situation because they knew that the people didn't have a voice. Eventually, he won an $18 billion case against the corporation. Yet, Chevron has not paid a single penny. Donziger has a serious following among environmentalists, and his supporters claim that he is being vilified for unmasking the truth of an inconsiderate decision. On the other hand, Chevron is trying to sue Donziger for manipulating evidence and has continuously painted him as nothing short of a criminal.  In this class, we were split into three groups, each searching articles of Steven Donziger in NYT, WP, and WSJ.
