10/28 2021 The Corporation 5 ~Pfizer & Disney~

    Pfizer, the American biotechnology corporation is headquartered in Manhattan, New York City. They interact with the people living around them and improve their impression as a corporation. Whilst they have strengthened security systems for train tickets and enhanced the safeness, the money spent is fully tax-deductible.  The tax would have gone straight to the government if Pfizer opt to use the money otherwise; however, since they have used it on areas around their headquarter, the money does not reach areas that need the most improvement, 

    Moreover, the dark truth of Disneys' business also left me shocked. Since the copyright on Mickey mouse expires in 2024, Disney bought star wars and marvel. Their plan was to keep gaining profits, even after losing Disney character copyrights. prior to the control of star wars, many science fiction writers wrote books that fit the storyline of the published series. However, Disney claimed all the books were not real, due to the fact that the profits were shared. Consequently, it has displeased writers as well as star wars fans. 


pfizer- company spending money to improve the vicinity, security nd improvement in the area. the money they spend is tax-deductible, meaning they do not spend their money. They are spenind money on this area because that is where the office is, and where workers come nad go everyday. 

if they didn't use the tax in the area, the money would go to the government, and it would be used for areas that need improvements the most. Scam of corporations. 

Disney business- they bought star wars and marvel.  copyright goes on for 25 years after the creator dies. 

Disney knew they were going to lose the copyright of Disney characters, therefore they needed something new. 

many sceicne fiction writers wrote books of the story after and before the movie series. But disney didn't like this because they all shared the profit. Disney claimed all the books were not real. They brought in their new characters, 7,8,9  disney made movies and were not original.

     In small groups, we watched short clips of the “meatrix”. They unfold the truth behind factory farming and industrial agricultural practices. The meatrix included scenes of the movie matrix, and by adding humor they were able to attract a wider audience. As of right now, the clips are available in 11 languages, which does not include Japanese. As Mr.Paterson mentioned, cognition regarding current issues is low in Japan. Not only does the video explain the issues surrounding factory farming, but it also gives out information on what viewers can do. Moreover, each version of the meatrix followed the storyline of the actual movies, which I found enjoyable.        I found it interesting how Mr. Paterson referred to this class as taking the "red pill". On march 7th Tuesday, the first lesson after the new era, we learned how to use the website "Blogger". However, since the WiFi was not working, it was difficult to catch up and get to the page. Although the internet was awfully slow, i was able to use the website. This website allows us to write our reflections for every class and i think that writing reflection are important things to do, because it enables us to look back and see what we thought about a specific topic or I can see how much I changed looking back at my own reflections. Therefore, I also think that keeping a diary is also essential; however, I know how having to do something every day is hard to do it continuously but the task that mr.paterson gave us made me think that this could be a beneficial habit.

Year 4 Reflective Blog

     One business strategy I was stunned by was planned obsolescence, which is a technique that is certainly not sustainable, yet too common in contemporary society. The product is planned and designed by the manufacturers to have a limit so that consumers would come back. For example, Japanese houses are said to last around 30 years; however, it usually takes 30 years to pay back the mortgage of the property. Houses are designed to deliberately deteriorate so that people would keep buying new houses. The same goes with terminator seeds which I was completely unaware of. The DNA of the seeds is tinkered so that only one plant grows and is terminated. This strategy procedure creates a cycle so that consumers would have to come back for more. From these examples, I was able to learn how the efficiency of marketing concentrates on profit rather than the quality of products.
