6/17 2021 Website Report "NHS"

     In today's lesson, we mainly worked on our websites. Using Canva to create the banner was very efficient and easy. Our slogan is "Healthy News for a Healthy You". Meaning, our explicit reports provide truthful content and enables individuals to access unmasked facts. With manipulative and inaccurate news permeating through the media, it is exceedingly difficult to trust any sort of news company. Therefore, our website can impart voices that have been enfeebled by large organizations. In the process of designing the banner, I paid close attention to the font, color, and size. Oftentimes, the banner is the first thing readers look at and giving wrong impressions is the last thing we want to do. Fitting the image of health, we chose to go with a dark blue color and kept it simple. Each of our team members is working on different parts of the websites, as well as preparing for our video. 

    John Pilger, who made the documentary "Palestine is still the issue", has exposed other news including the scandal of NHS (National Health Service). The NHS is a publicly funded health care system, in the United Kingdom. Since 1948 they have been funded by general taxation, and provide free health care for all citizens. However, John Pilger has unmasked the dirty truth. I found out about this scandal through John Pilger's Twitter. He mentioned his documentary published in 2019, called "The Dirty War on the NHS". I decided to watch the 2 hour-long documentary and was appalled by the dirty reality. I found out about "Patient DUmping", which is a term used for when patients are dumped out of the hospital in order for new patients to come in. The hospital profits from more people staying in hospitals; therefore, once there is not enough space, they completely abandon them and leave them out on the streets. One video was shared online of a woman at night in a hospital gown, seemingly sick. Apparently, this was a woman who was dumped by the hospital. I will be reporting about patient dumping, second-hand equipment to cut costs, and manipulation. 

    The report on our websites should not be like the academic essay style that we previously wrote. it should be like any other news article and explaining the topic. We could write our reports starting with basic information and slowly giving details, or commence from the most important point. 5 to 7 paragraphs maximum, and neutrality is the form of writing our group will aim to write. As, I learned from John Pilger's documentaries, providing information from both sides is vital for neutrality. Although the main goal for journalists is to write unbiased writing, many fail to do so.

Look at newspaper stories. describe the 5 W slowly explaining and giving details. not supposed to take a position but in reality that doesn't happen. length is not as long as academic essays. 5,6,7 paragraphs max. neutrality is something to aim for if we want to be newspaper writers. (goal)

     In small groups, we watched short clips of the “meatrix”. They unfold the truth behind factory farming and industrial agricultural practices. The meatrix included scenes of the movie matrix, and by adding humor they were able to attract a wider audience. As of right now, the clips are available in 11 languages, which does not include Japanese. As Mr.Paterson mentioned, cognition regarding current issues is low in Japan. Not only does the video explain the issues surrounding factory farming, but it also gives out information on what viewers can do. Moreover, each version of the meatrix followed the storyline of the actual movies, which I found enjoyable.        I found it interesting how Mr. Paterson referred to this class as taking the "red pill". On march 7th Tuesday, the first lesson after the new era, we learned how to use the website "Blogger". However, since the WiFi was not working, it was difficult to catch up and get to the page. Although the internet was awfully slow, i was able to use the website. This website allows us to write our reflections for every class and i think that writing reflection are important things to do, because it enables us to look back and see what we thought about a specific topic or I can see how much I changed looking back at my own reflections. Therefore, I also think that keeping a diary is also essential; however, I know how having to do something every day is hard to do it continuously but the task that mr.paterson gave us made me think that this could be a beneficial habit.

Year 4 Reflective Blog

     One business strategy I was stunned by was planned obsolescence, which is a technique that is certainly not sustainable, yet too common in contemporary society. The product is planned and designed by the manufacturers to have a limit so that consumers would come back. For example, Japanese houses are said to last around 30 years; however, it usually takes 30 years to pay back the mortgage of the property. Houses are designed to deliberately deteriorate so that people would keep buying new houses. The same goes with terminator seeds which I was completely unaware of. The DNA of the seeds is tinkered so that only one plant grows and is terminated. This strategy procedure creates a cycle so that consumers would have to come back for more.
