five feet apart chapter 1

I ordered the book called "five feet apart"  written by Rachael Lippincott about a month ago, which was supposed to arrive soon.  since the book was taking too long to arrive I decided to buy the book on iBooks on my phone.

The story starts out with the character "Stella Grant" decorating her room with drawings made by her older sister, Abby. This book is written in the first person and Stella talks about how every single drawing has a message that her sister put in towards the sickness she has. Cystic fibrosis (CS). CS  is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections. At the beginning of the story, Stella's friends, Camila and Mya visited her before going on a school trip to Cabo that Stella would be missing due to the deterioration of her lungs. The first chapter talks about Stella's struggle and the fact that she has a Youtube channel going on for a long time. She says she has been making Youtube videos for about half the time to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis. The first chapter introduces a lot of new characters. Stellas, sister, mom, and dad ( divorced six months ago), Poe, a friend of hers for a decade who also has CF and are best friends. Julie, who checks up on her and Barb, whos been the respiratory therapist since Stella first came to the hospital. At the end of the chapter, it finished with Stella discovering a new character.

10/7 2021 meatrix

     In small groups, we watched short clips of the “meatrix”. They unfold the truth behind factory farming and industrial agricultural practices. The meatrix included scenes of the movie matrix, and by adding humor they were able to attract a wider audience. As of right now, the clips are available in 11 languages, which does not include Japanese. As Mr.Paterson mentioned, cognition regarding current issues is low in Japan. Not only does the video explain the issues surrounding factory farming, but it also gives out information on what viewers can do. Moreover, each version of the meatrix followed the storyline of the actual movies, which I found enjoyable.        I found it interesting how Mr. Paterson referred to this class as taking the "red pill". 5/26 2021 Steven Donziger

     Steven Donziger, a lawyer who stood up to Chevron cooperation is currently under house arrest. For the last two decades, they have been battling over an oil spill that had happened in Ecuador. It blew my mind that Chevron was purposefully ignoring the situation because they knew that the people didn't have a voice. Eventually, he won an $18 billion case against the corporation. Yet, Chevron has not paid a single penny. Donziger has a serious following among environmentalists, and his supporters claim that he is being vilified for unmasking the truth of an inconsiderate decision. On the other hand, Chevron is trying to sue Donziger for manipulating evidence and has continuously painted him as nothing short of a criminal.  In this class, we were split into three groups, each searching articles of Steven Donziger in NYT, WP, and WSJ.
